If you enjoy tempting yourself with diesels that are available in Europe and Japan but not the rest of the world, then feast on Toyota's Auris hatchback, a replacement for the Corolla. The Auris, already available in Japan and coming to Europe in February 2007, is a three- or five-door car with five different engine types that all meet Euro IV emissions standards (two petrol engines, the 1.4 VVT-i and 1.6 Dual VVT-i, and three diesels, 1.4, 2.0 and 2.2 D-4D. The 2.0 liter D-4D 130 engine is the one in the 2007 Avensis, and the 2.2 D-4d 180 uses Toyota's D-CAT clean diesel technology to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate emissions.
